7 Card Stud is a very popular variation of poker games. There are two different types of 7 Card Stud game: regular 7 Card Stud and 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo. It take more skill, strategy and practice to become a better player in this game. You will need to know the basic poker rules before you can play 7 Card Stud. The rules of this game are the following (similar for traditional and online versions). First of all, the betting limit will be created before the game starts. You will need to have at least ten times the game limit to be able to buy into the game.
There will be an obligatory ante for the 7 Card Stud poker. The ante can be anywhere from 10% of the game limit to 25%, depending on the level of the game. After all players make the ante bet, the dealer starts dealing one card at a time from his left in the clockwise direction. All players will get 3 cards (“Third Street”) – two cards face down and one card face up. If you are playing an online version, you will simply see cards dealt to you by the computer: two cards viewable only by you and one publicly viewable card. The player who has the lowest card that is face up will be required to start the betting by placing a bet that is twice more then the ante bet. After that other players will be able to place their bets or quit: players can call, raise or fold.
Next each player gets another open card from the dealer (or computer). This round is called the “Fourth Street”. From this point on the player who has the highest hand will open the betting. This player will have the option of checking (passing) or betting. The bet should be at the low game limit, unless the player’s hand has two cards face up that are the same. In the second case the player can bet at the upper game limit. The next two rounds (“Fifth Street” and “Sixth Street”) follow the similar pattern. The player with highest hand opens the betting. Players can bet and raise at the upper game limit.
During the seventh round (“Seventh Street”) each player gets another card which is face down. After all bets and raises are done, the players may open their hidden cards, starting from the opening player. It is possible to fold and not reveal your cards at the traditional game. The player with the superior 5 card hand wins. In online casino the computer will determine the winner. With the 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo poker game the final pot is equally divided between the best high hand and the best low hand (must be 8, 7, 6, 5, or lower).
